H μέτρηση της αξίας προϋποθέτει τη "γενική ισοδυναμία" (όρος Μαρξ για χρήμα). Μια ριζικά άλλη εννόηση της αξίας ως μη μετρήσιμης τίθεται ως ΤΟ αίτημα της εποχής μας από σύγχρονους φιλοσόφους. π.χ. Jean-Luc Nancy: "We must transvalue, reevaluate, counter-evaluate all values. It’s not necessary to overthrow them (to devalorize them), but to reevaluate value itself. We have to reform it (in both senses of the word) or revolutionize it (in all these senses too). Which means: we have to rethink its price, by considering it as an absolute price, no longer dependent on a principle that fixes it.We have to value value without measurement. (...)To be value proper, value must be heterogeneous to this equivalence. (...) The heterogeneous is not in the business of usage or exchange: it’s a matter of experience."
