Χάζευα τις κριτικές στο amazon.com και έπεσα στην παρακάτω κριτική για το cd 'aenima' των Tool....

Tool is a band whose music is pretty hard to label. They've been called everything from metal, to numetal, to alternative and progressive rock/metal. While they exhibit attributes to all of the aforementioned genres, it's pretty safe to say that they've created a kind of music that's timeless, transcendent, deep, mysterious, forbidding and intriguing - all at once. To me, their name sums up the music they make perfectly - a "tool" for exploring the mysterious depths of the human psyche. The music usually explores darker themes like pain, anger, frustration and guilt, then regurgitates them into a volatile, yet beautiful and alluring catharsis.

How do I describe Tool's music?

I'd say they have the dark aura and minimalist experimentalism of King Crimson, the philosophical bent of Rush and the hypnotic, alluring quality of Pink Floyd - without really sounding like either of those bands. They possess their own distinctive sound.

On _Ænima_, Tool creates a 77-minute gargantuan slice of thought-provoking art-metal, which mainly encourages people to look deeper and think for themselves - whether it be looking beyond the surface of cliched beliefs (examples: what people are taught to believe in church, or what's seen and absorbed from television and more).

Ænima_ is an album that can take weeks, months and years to decipher. The lyrical and musical complexity is nearly infinite - to an almost unfathomable degree. It's an album you can listen to for years and still find new things to discover -- lyrically, musically and thematically. Tool has created music that can only be called timeless, transcendent, infinite and futuristic. _Ænima_ is a timeless masterpiece. Highly recommended.

Με 2 λόγια:Το πιο συγκλονιστικό μουσικό album που έχω ακούσει στην ζωή μου...Αν οι Pink Floyd έπαιζαν 'heavy' μουσικές κάπως έτσι θα ακουγόντουσαν.Αλλά και πάλι δεν μπορείς να περιγράψεις με λέξεις κάτι τόσο υπερβατικό όσο το aenima.6 χρόνια μετά αφού το πρωτάκουσα δεν παύω να το ακούω σχεδόν καθε μέρα.Αν ήθελα να περιγράψω το effect που έχει πάνω και μέσα μου η ακρόαση του θα έλεγα πως είναι κάπως σαν ηχητικό lsd.Αλλά και παλι το lsd ΄διαρκεί 4-8 ώρες,ενώ το cd αυτό με ΄ταξιδεύει΄ ήδη 6 χρόνια και δεν βλέπω σημάδια ξενερώματος στο άμεσο μέλλον.

Έχω αρχίσει να πιστεύω ότι οι τύποι είτε είναι εξωγήινοι είτε είναι παιδιά ενός ανώτερου Θεού.'H απλά πούλησαν την ψυχή τους στον Διάολο με αντάλλαγμα την δημιουργία του συγκεκριμένου δίσκου.

Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet

Ακούω τους Porcupine Tree από την εποχή του Signify, περίπου το 1997. Πρώτη φορά με δυσκόλεψε ένα δισκάκι τους όσο το Fear of a Blank Planet. Χρειάστηκε πάνω από 10 ακροάσεις κι ακόμα δεν είμαι σίγουρος για αρκετά απ’ όσα άκουσα.

Κατ’ αρχήν να πω ότι πιστεύω ότι ο Wilson και η υπόλοιπη παρέα είναι μάγκες. Οι άνθρωποι μετά το Deadwing (το προτελευταίο τους) και νέο συμβόλαιο με πιο μεγάλη εταιρία, πράγμα που σημαίνει άνοιγμα σε μεγαλύτερο κοινό, περισσότερες συναυλίες, περισσότερα χρήματα, πάνε και κάνουν ένα CD που είναι και πιο δύσκολο στο άκουσμα και πιο καυστικό στους στίχους.

Όλο το CD ασχολείται με ένα πράγμα: πως μεγαλώνουν τα παιδιά στις πόλεις του σήμερα. Βαρεμάρα, χάπια και ναρκωτικά, όπλα, shopping therapy και άρνηση των πάντων. Αυτό βγαίνει και στη μουσική. Οργή κι ένταση τις πιο πολλές φορές, παγωμάρα και βουτιά στο κενό κάποιες άλλες.

Η μουσική

Οι Porcupine Tree συνεχίζουν να αλλάζουν τη μουσική τους, να μην παραμένουν στάσιμοι και ταυτόχρονα να βγάζουν νέα ακούσματα. Πόσοι άλλοι το κάνουν αυτό; Το γκρουπ είναι ομάδα, όχι 4-5 μουσικοί που καθένας παίζει το δικό του. Κανένας τους δίσκος, και πάνω απ’ όλα αυτός εδώ, δεν έχει γίνει ρουτίνα. Είναι μουσικά ταξίδια.

Το Fear of a Blank Planet είναι ένα σκληρό CD. Οι κιθάρες είναι πιο δυνατές από ποτέ, μερικές φορές φτάνουν στα όρια του thrash. Όμως αν παρατηρήσεις πως και γιατί ακούγονται έτσι στο συγκεκριμένο σημείο του κομματιού, όχι μόνο τις αποδέχεσαι, αλλά τις γουστάρεις κιόλας.

Αυτό που δεν έχει αλλάξει είναι η μελωδικότητα του συγκροτήματος που μπορείς να τη βρεις ακόμα και στα πιο δυνατά riffs. Ο R. Barbieri (ο άνθρωπος πίσω από τα keyboards) είναι εκπληκτικό μία πως βγάζει ένα κλίμα εντελώς ψυχρό και μία κάποια πιο ζεστή αίσθηση μέσα στα κομμάτια.

O Wilson συνεχίζει να γίνεται πιο τολμηρός με τη φωνή του σε ευαίσθητα μέρη κάποιων κομματιών. Νομίζω ότι πρόκειται για έναν από τους καλύτερους μουσικούς της εποχής του. Τελεία.

Οι στίχοι

Τι νιώθει ένα παιδί που μεγαλώνει σήμερα στη Νέα Υόρκη, στο Λονδίνο ή στην Αθήνα; Πώς αντιμετωπίζει το σχολείο, τους γονείς του, την καθημερινότητά του; Οι στίχοι του CD δε θα χαϊδέψουν τα αυτιά σου.

Η πλήξη του να τα έχεις δοκιμάσει όλα και τίποτα να μην σου κάνει εντύπωση, η αποχαύνωση της τηλεόρασης, η τάση για απομόνωση, η επιθυμία να φύγεις. Δεν ξέρεις για που και πως, αλλά ξέρεις ότι θες να φύγεις.

Δυο λόγια για κλείσιμο

Το Fear of a Blank Planet είναι ένα εκπληκτικό και δύσκολο CD. Πρώτα καταλαβαίνεις ότι είναι δύσκολο και σιγά σιγά ανακαλύπτεις πόσο καλό είναι. Φυσικά δεν είναι για όλους, δεν μπορεί να ακουστεί απ’ όλους. Δεν πειράζει.

Χαίρομαι που οι Porcupine Tree συνεχίζουν να μην είναι mainstream, να γίνονται καλύτεροι και να αλλάζουν. Και χαίρομαι δύο φορές που στη μουσική φτήνεια που μας περιβάλλει υπάρχει μουσική, αληθινή μουσική, να κάνει τις μέρες και τις νύχτες μας πιο όμορφες.

Hollywood, CA (June 14, 2007)--The Mars Volta are recording their fourth album, The Bedlam in Goliath at Ocean Way Recording with engineer Robert Carranza. Set for a fall release, band member Omar Rodriguez-Lopez is producing the record, as he did the last two Mars Volta albums.

Engineer and mixer Robert Carranza is known for his work with such artists as Los Lobos, Ozomatli, Jack Johnson, Beck, Eels, Molotov and Supergrass.

The Mars Volta is the creative partnership formed in 2001 between bandleader/ composer/ guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and lyricist/ vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala. The band is known for its progressive rock, melded with jazz, punk and Latin influences. The Mars Volta is also notorious for its wild, energetic, and highly improvised live shows along with the use of ambient music.

The Mars Volta released their debut album, De-Loused in the Comatorium in 2003. The band returned in early 2005 with their second full-length release, the ambitious song cycle Frances the Mute. They also issued the live set Scab Dates later that year. Their third album, Amputechture, arrived in 2006, featuring performances by the Red Hot Chili Peppers' guitarist John Frusciante.

Μεγαλοφυές βιβλίο.Πιθανότατα,το πιο αστείο βιβλίο που έχω διαβάσει ποτέ μου.Προτιμήστε την Αμερικάνικη έκδοση.Η μετάφραση,όσο καλή και αν είναι,εν μέρει το 'ευνουχίζει'.Αν σας άρεσε η ταινία,ε το βιβλίο είναι 100 φορές πιο αστείο...

Επειδή έχει γίνει χαμός τις τελευταιές ημέρες με τους αστυνομικούς που έβαλαν τους 2 ανθρώπους να χαστουκίζονται στο Α.Τ. Ομονοίας και επειδή έπεσαν όλοι να τους φάνε,πιστεύω πως πρέπει να αποκαλύψω τα βαθύτερα ΚΑΛΛΙΤΕΧΝΙΚΑ αίτια πίσω απο το συγκεκριμένο περιστατικό.

Τι συνέβη λοιπόν?

Σύμφωνα με εξακριβωμένες και διασταυρωμένες πληροφορίες απο έγκυρες πηγές το όλο συμβάν δεν ήταν παρά μια προσπάθεια των συγκεκριμένων αστυνομικών να γυρίσουν το remake ενός πολύ γνωστού και πολύ μελωδικού κομματιού της βρεττανικής σκηνής των 80's
